Burton and South Derbyshire College

Re-branding - Internal and External Wayfinding Strategy

Following a tendering exercise, Burton and South Derbyshire College selected Spectrum Architectural Signing to create and implement a sign strategy to reflect their new brand across both their campuses in Burton and South Derbyshire (Swadlincote). As part of the College's re-branding exercise, we developed an internal and external wayfinding strategy for their main campus, and Internal signs for their new college campus building in South Derbyshire.

Spectrum Architectural Signing worked closely with the College's marketing and estates departments, and the project was co-ordinated by John Beaty, the College's Vice Principal: Learner Voice, Services and Reputation.

Our designer picked up on the curve in the new logo and used this to great effect in the shape of the sign panels. Large external signs were fitted to the main campus entrance and to the new building in South Derbyshire. We sourced a colour changing Black/White perspex that would display the Black logo when illuminated and non-illuminated, as the logo is predominantly Black. We also manufactured wall mounted building identification signs, curved face totems and external wayfinding signs. For the internal sign system we selected the Monoline system with high quality glass panels, which complement the clean lines of the brand new building and is easy to update when departments move or updates are required.
